Dear Generous Benefactor(s) of Road to Recovery, Inc.:
We have dated this letter Thanksgiving Day, November 24, 2022, because we are grateful beyond words for your donations that have kept us serving sexual abuse victims and their families for the past:
20 YEARS – OUR TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY!
It is time for celebrating – YOU! We could not have served so many (more than 5,000 victims and their families) during these past two decades had you not committed your generous gifts to us. In addition, most of our principal leaders and workers, many pro bono, have been with us since the idea of Road to Recovery, Inc. was birthed in 2002.
Msgr. Lasch and I began early plans for full incorporation in 2003, reaching that goal in 2005 thanks to a pro bono law firm recommended by a Catholic parishioner. Vasile and Fronduto, our accounting firm and professionals par excellence, have made sure our finances and reports have remained honest and accurate.
In addition, our co-founder and President, Robert M. Hoatson, Ph.D., has been selected by the Attorney General of New Jersey to serve as one of two New Jersey citizens on the New Jersey State Task Force on Clergy Sexual Abuse. The public announcement of such should occur soon. You may have noticed that many of the fifty States have conducted or are conducting investigations of clergy sexual abuse.
Less than a couple of weeks ago, the Maryland Attorney General released preliminary findings of his investigation that revealed that 158 priests were accused of abusing more than 600 victims. The crisis has not ended, and Road to Recovery, Inc. remains in the forefront of advocating for victims and their families.
Our Board of Directors continues to be updated (mostly by emails). It is still not safe to meet face to face, and I try to make sure to keep the Board informed of what is happening with Road to Recovery, Inc. Thanks to these “believers” in our work.
This letter is particularly streamlined since we all need to take time to celebrate our 20th Birthday. We hope you will continue your incredible generosity as we enter 2023, the first year toward our next birthday, the Silver Anniversary in 2027. As usual, we ask you to send your contributions to the address listed above OR through Pay Pal. We have a wonderful group of “PayPal” contributors who have committed to monthly donations. Thanks, “Pay-Pals!”
I would be remiss if I did not thank posthumously one of our donors who left us a generous contribution in her will. She was a victim/survivor of clergy sexual abuse but never received the justice she deserved before she died. However, she was most grateful to Road to Recovery, Inc. for taking up her cause and doing all we could to convince the abuser’s organization to treat her with compassion. She rests in peace, knowing that her generosity is helping hundreds of her fellow victim/survivors.
Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas, Happy and Healthy New Year, and Happy Holidays to all.
Gratefully,
Robert M. Hoatson, Ph.D.
